I had so much fun experimenting with Bailey’s frosting – I think I was covered with frosting by the time I was done. I seriously wanted a Bailey’s frosting that actually tasted of Bailey’s and here it is…and it has a generous full cup of Bailey’s!
Boston Cream Pie
For years, I made Boston Cream Pie on Valentine’s Day for my kids. I loved putting little chocolate hearts around the top near the edge of the cake, and I loved that it had such a gorgeous old-fashioned look with the glaze dripping down and the custard peeping out. It reminded me of those cakes that Yogi Bear stole along with the Pahnicanic baskets.
Buche de Noel Yule Log
I try to make this cake. Buche de Noel Yule Log, from Martha Stewart’s 2003 Christmas Book, every Christmas Season. She calls it Birch de Noel, and I always thought it was fitting because up “Nord” here in Minnesota, all the logs are blanketed in snow through the winter season. You betcha! I guess it appeals to the realist in me, though this dessert is pure fantasy!
Cafe Lattes Mabels Turtle Cake
This is our “go-to” birthday cake, Cafe Lattes Mabels Turtle Cake. It’s been made for and served to multiple generations of my family. Four, to be exact, and hopefully to a new one sometime in the future. This is the cake of our dreams! Intensely chocolate (and moist) cake with a ton of chocolate ganache and dripping with caramel. It’s outstanding and a little messy and oh so wonderful.
Wayside Inn Carrot Cake
I haven’t been posting much on this blog; I stopped in to see my Dad, Chuck and Step Mom, Pat, in early June and basically never left…so for this summer at least, I’ve traded in my city life in the Twin Cities for a small town in South Dakota. Quite a shocker but we’re making do and working things through and having a pretty good time as we do so.
