I’m a bit at a loss as to how to describe Puerco Con Chile Verde! Tender chunks of braised pork in a slightly spicy, slightly smoky green tomatillo sauce is descriptive but doesn’t quite give justice. Guisado de Puerco con Tomatillos or Carne de Puerco en Salsa Verde rolls off the tongue with a bit more flair.
Sparrow Tavern’s Veggie Burger . $3.75 for 8
Diners, Drive Ins & Dives is on Netflix this season and this episode features the Sparrow Tavern in Astoria, New York – a run down rock & roll type bar with gourmet style. One of their star items was the Sparrow Veggie Burger and even the carnivores were going on about it. After I made them, I can see why – they’re flippin’ AWESOME! A bit of work, but the best Veggie Burger I’ve ever had!
The Sparrow Tavern’s Sweet Cayenne Mustard Sauce . 50 cents
A bit of spice tempered by a touch of sweet, this creamy Sweet Cayenne Mustard Sauce is a bit different and totally awesome. Developed by the Sparrow Tavern in Astoria, New York for their Veggie Burgers, which I also made & put on my blog.
Opal Thai’s Pork Larb
Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I love that show but haven’t seen it since I chopped my cable. Featured on one episode was Opal Thai’s Pork Larb made by Chef Opel (Opal Thai Food) on the episode All Family, All the Time. I was completely enamored – and Guy Fieri? There’s very little that shuts him up (I’m kinda the same way) but this dish did! 🙂 He was just about speechless.
Chicken Avocado Arepas
I love Arepas and here’s a classic filling for these little Venezuelan buns: Chicken Avocado Arepas. The filling is creamy, cool, and delish with just a little more personality than you might expect from your everyday basic Chicken & Avocado Salad.
