I’m always on the lookout for budget protein and when I saw this Rump roast at a great sales price I picked it up. Rump can be a tough, dry cut, sometimes a bit tasteless but cooked long and slow in a flavorful bath of aromatics and spices I knew it would be luscious.

I think there are two classes of people. Those who are wild crazy about the caramelly goodness that is Dulce de Leche and those who have never tried it! There’s no doubt, though, that it can be kind of pricey at the store, and so here’s your solution, my Homemade Slow Cooker Dulce de Leche.
Ropa Vieja
This is my Classic Cuban Ropa Vieja. Yeah, it translates to old clothes or old rags because the meat is cooked to shreds – gosh that name just does not do this lovely meal justice! Slowly simmered beef, simmered until it’s all but fallen apart, with garlic and cumin and aromatics. And then there are the peppers. Oh my.
Slow Cooker Caramelized Onions
I’ve gotta say I’ve wanted to try crockpot caramelized onions for a long time…and I finally have. I have mixed feelings about my crockpot, btw. What they do well, they do SO well and what they don’t do well…yikes!

Slow Cooker Pulled Pork or Brisket
Hey guys, it’s me, the Frugal Hausfrau, with an easy crockpot recipe for a “barbecued” brisket or pork shoulder that, wait for it, uses convenience products! Yikes – has the earth ended? Maybe the lunar eclipse of the blood moon we had last week affected my mind!
