I try to make this cake. Buche de Noel Yule Log, from Martha Stewart’s 2003 Christmas Book, every Christmas Season. She calls it Birch de Noel, and I always thought it was fitting because up “Nord” here in Minnesota, all the logs are blanketed in snow through the winter season. You betcha! I guess it appeals to the realist in me, though this dessert is pure fantasy!
Salted Caramel Sauce
Salted Caramel – while the name evokes a gourmet treat (and it is) it always makes me want to snort just a little. Make caramel sauce and add a little salt. I know it’s fantastic, but people seem to just go nuts over the name! Anyway, salted or not, you just can’t beat a rich, luscious homemade caramel sauce.
Roasted Pears with Lemon Cream & Maple Caramel Syrup
For once, I don’t have too much to say about a recipe – only that I became utterly enamored with the idea of this when I was leafing through a Midwest Magazine. I was wowed! Perfect for fall, perfect for Thanksgiving, and perfect for me! The recipe makes eight servings, but for these photos, I halved it.
Wayside Inn Carrot Cake
I haven’t been posting much on this blog; I stopped in to see my Dad, Chuck and Step Mom, Pat, in early June and basically never left…so for this summer at least, I’ve traded in my city life in the Twin Cities for a small town in South Dakota. Quite a shocker but we’re making do and working things through and having a pretty good time as we do so.
Eton Mess
A while back, I made some lovely Meringue Nests and had some leftover meringues. I stashed them in an airtight container on top of the fridge. Now, in my defense, I can’t see up there, and forgot about them…long story short, when I finally came across those few lonely meringue nests, weeks later, they were still fine. I had some berries in the fridge, so Eton Mess made sense!
