So often one thing leads to another, and so it was when I made Shrimp & Grits with a Cajun Gastrique not too long ago! My sister came to visit shortly after and while she missed the Shrimp and Grits, she proposed we make New Orleans Grillades & Grits. It was a good call and we were off on yet another New Orleans inspired adventure!
Grilled Steak with Honey Chipotle Glaze
Here in the Frugal household, we don’t eat a lot of steaks; well, duh, that’s because we’re frugal!! But when a real craving hits or maybe thee’s a special occasion, especially in the summer, that’s when I pull out my Grilled Steak with Honey Chipotle Glaze. It never fails to impress! By the way, please forgive the pics of my steak! I took pics, then we ate and when I looked at them after they are a little “psycho”delic! Of course, by then the steak was long gone!
German Beef Rouladen, Mushroom Gravy
My Mom (rest her soul) was a fantastic cook. Sure, she got sidetracked into the weirdness in the ’60s, Porcupine Balls, Tuna Casserole, and even Shake and Bake, but later found her “groove.” These German Beef Rouladen, Mushroom Gravy were a family favorite and a labor of love. Believe me, I know, having made them multiple times. Fair warning, this is one of those heritage recipes you’re going to want to make when you’ve got a bit of time to piddle around in the kitchen, especially the first time. No worries, I’ll lead you through it. If you’re a cooking pro, feel free to jump to the recipe; this is a long post.

Chicken Fried Steak with Country Gravy
It’s often said by “experts” in the field of nutrition that there are no “bad” foods, but I do have to wonder about Chicken Fried Steak – it just tastes so darned good! A huge fave of Child Number Two, Kraig, who has to have it when his birthday rolls around. I pull out the cast iron and go to town. Or maybe to country?
