Do you have your top secret Ninja ways to make plain old canned baked beans taste more like homemade? I have a couple of tricks up my sleeve, depending on what kind of beans I want. Most of the time when I’m Doctoring Canned Baked Beans, I’m looking for kind of delish New England style, a bit zippy, a little sweet, and super flavorful, and that’s what these are.
Creamed Peas & Pearl Onions
When I was a kid, either creamed peas or creamed pearl onions or a combination of both were on the menu now and then, especially at Grandma’s house. Honestly, I wonder if they were the ones that used to come in the box, frozen. They were often served with Salmon Loaf, so when I reworked Grandma’s Salmon Loaf recipe into Not Grandma’s Salmon Loaf, I thought I’d better address the Creamed Peas & Pearl Onions, too. They really do go so well together and the cream sauce serves as a sauce for the Salmon Loaf, too.
Guatemalan Rice & Beans
One of my very favorite meals on my site is Guatemalan Chicken in Coconut Milk, Pollo en Leche de Coco. It’s the perfect thing for a cold, winter day – fast and easy and flavor for days! In the past, I’ve served it with plain rice instead of how I first had it, with Guatemalan Rice & Beans.

Ok, so will you guys kill me if I post two mashed potato recipes in the same week? Thanksgiving (and Christmas soon after) is coming Mashed potatoes are such an important part of the meal, I wanted to get this Make-Ahead Slow Cooker or Oven Mashed Potatoes recipe out AND the recipe for Best Company Mashed Potatoes.
Best Company Mashed Potatoes

Sometimes I make my Perfect Instant Pot Potatoes, too. They’re a great mashed potato. But when Company comes or a Holiday rolls around, I pull out all the stops and make these uber creamy and glorious Best Company Mashed Potatoes.
