Summer is just about over, folks. I am finding myself feeling like I do every year that I somehow missed out. That I didn’t get enough of our fresh fruit to fortify myself against the pending cold, bleak winter. Ugg. Did I just say Winter? The summer fruit just seems to come in so fast and furious that I just about feel like I have A.D.D. trying to choose! Peaches, Apricots, no, maybe Watermelon! Well, today, it’s Blueberries. I haven’t posted a pancake recipe in ages – but the other night I had a craving and made Cook’s Illustrated Buttermilk Pancakes for dinner. Don’t tell! Breakfast for dinner! Why does that freak some people out? I say we need it more often! There should be a movement!

So this year must have just been a killer year for blueberries! I’m seeing so many gorgeous ones at the store, the markets, everywhere. And so I’ve made several blueberry desserts & recipes, some successes, some maybe not so much. One that was a huge success is this Blueberry Buckle. The folks, especially my Da, went nuts over this!

If there was ever a frugal “cheat” of a dessert, Profiteroles, or Cream Puffs, as they are often called when filled like this, have to be it. Easy to make, requiring no special equipment, although a piping bag & tip is nice. Cream Puffs are inexpensive and can be partially made ahead. These Cream Puffs with Mascarpone Filling & Blueberry Compote are a fabulous dessert! What more could one want?
