Is running out of barbecue sauce an emergency? In my kitchen, it can be! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve opened my fridge looking for barbecue sauce only to realize I’m out! Honestly, I either have too many kinds cluttering up the fridge door or none at all. There doesn’t seem to be an in-between! But one thing I almost always have on hand is ketchup, and it makes a fab base for this Quick Emergency Barbecue Sauce.
Kansas City Barbecue Sauce is my ultimate comfort barbecue sauce. Growing up in the Midwest, that’s just what we used, or should I say what my Dad used. It was always glossy, on the sweet side with just a bit of a kick at the end. And it was always used on his grilled chicken.
If you grew up in the Midwest like I did, or maybe just in the States, it stands to reason you might be familiar with Grape Jelly Barbecue Sauce. It’s the base sauce for all those classic barbecue type meatballs that are served out of slow cookers at so many parties, potlucks, and get-togethers. They’re just about ubiquitous, and like many simple recipes are either loved or reviled.
I’m kind of getting on a little apple kick here in late May. It’s because I posted the recipe out for my Cider Glazed Ribs so I just had to put out the recipe for this Apple Butter Barbecue Sauce to complement them. And to tell the truth, I have a slaw coming up with apples in it, too. That’s my Tangy Apple Cabbage Slaw.
It could very well be that I’m in denial! I am astonished each time it snows! I do live in Minnesota, and it IS November, but really? Snow twice last week and again the other day.
