    Hi there!

You probably have had discussions on dinners where each couple is bringing something around a general theme. We are having a Mediterranean nigh with sausages on the grill, the group’ suggestion which we will do, and one of the couples is bringing caponata that contains the eggplant, squash, tomatoes, and potatoes. What else would you suggest for a salad and a dessert that features lemon and almonds.? Wish you were with us!

    • Hi Judy, that sounds like a marvelous party! First, I’d want some flatbread or pita, marked on the grill that can be wrapped around the sausages or dipped into the caponata. You couldn’t go wrong with a big Greek salad (little to no lettuce) just filled with tomatoes and olives and all the goodies, which could be added to the sausages, too if you guys are going the pita route. Would that be too mundane?

Greek desserts tend to be very simple but a lemon olive oil cake would be fantastic. If you want to diverge from the Greek theme a little bit pound cake, lightly grilled and served with grilled fruit like plums and peaches, maybe drizzled with a little wine or liqueur or a little lemon simple syrup with a bit of lightly whipped cream. Or served with a selection of sorbets. It’s fun to pre scoop a variety of different sorbets, freeze until very hard and then pile the into a big shallow dish (freeze that so it’s very cold first) and then bring it out. I did just post a lemon meringue ice-cream cake that would be good after any casual party…

I guess I didn’t address the almonds – I just recently pinned this cake – it sounds almost like maybe what you were thinking of http://cakeletsanddoilies.blogspot.com.au/2013/07/lemon-ricotta-and-almond-flourless-cake.html
